David Buchanan (he/him) is an assistant professor of English. His research focuses on popular print culture from the eighteenth century to the present in Britain and Canada.
Currently, David is co-editing two special issues: the first considers “Romanticism’s Commons” in European Romantic Review; the second addresses “New Histories of the Small Press in Canada” in Papers of the Bibliographical Society of Canada. His latest research investigates downmarket representations of modernity in early nineteenth century Glasgow and popular reading in mid twentieth century British Columbia.
His first book, , provides comparative analysis of transatlantic reinventions of the historical novel. In addition to related articles on chapbook reading and dramatic adaptation, collaborative digital humanities projects have resulted in several online resources, including , , and .
David teaches undergraduate courses in cultural studies and English as well as a world literature course in the Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies program.
