Bachelor of Arts, French Major - Learning outcomes

As a result of completing this program, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate advanced written and oral proficiency in French across a variety of contexts.
  • Analyze major movements, genres, and cultural developments in French and Francophone literatures and cultures from the medieval period to the present.
  • Apply appropriate terminology and methods of literary analysis in the interpretation of texts.
  • Critically engage with the diversity of perspectives represented in French and Francophone literatures and cultures, including works by authors from historically marginalized or underrepresented communities.
  • Produce sustained literary analyses and research projects, including extended analytical essays, demonstrating scholarly rigour, effective argumentation, and mastery of academic conventions in French.
