Mr. Jim Rieder
Jim Grew up in a Military family and travelled across the country, as his father was a Canadian Air Force Navigator who was posted to different bases, eventually settling in Cold Lake, Alberta where Jim went to High School. From there to University of Alberta for a Bachelor of Education and eventually to San Diego State for a Graduate degree in Education Administration.
Jim’s career was in the education industry. Initially as a teacher and a school vice principal. And then taking a leap of faith to a software startup that provided communication, collaboration and online learning tools to Universities, Colleges and Schools across the globe. The software startup grew through acquisitions and eventually went public. Working first as an Education Director and then a sales Director, he built and managed high-performance teams and a global reseller network spanning North America and beyond. After 2 decades, Jim left business and returned to education at West Island College, first leading the Admissions team and later guiding the Institute program, where he designed academically focused experiential opportunities aligned with futures in Business, Engineering, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, Fine Arts, and International Languages and Culture.
Jim is currently retired but keeps himself busy volunteering for various organizations including the Calgary Stampede, playing hockey, golf, curling, backpacking and travel.
